Keep our special river clean and safe!
Our very own Little Tennessee River is one of the most diverse freshwater habitats in the temperate world. It provides a home to countless fish, mammal, amphibian, bird, and invertebrate species, some of which are threatened or endangered. Unfortunately, littering, illegal dumping, and misuse has caused these waters to become congested with plastic bottles, tires, cans, and other junk. Join us for a half-day of conservation comradery to help create a safe and clean environment for all the creatures who enjoy these waters, from humans to hellbenders!
A volunteer info tent, dumpster, and recycling collection will be located at 544 E Main St in Franklin, across the street from the Mainspring Conservation Trust office. Starting at 9am, volunteers can stop by to pick up supplies and a map of the major litter zones. If you know a litter hot spot that isn’t listed, go ahead and tackle it! Bring your boat if you don’t mind collecting trash in it, or join the ranks as a shoreside or wading volunteer. Once you’ve filled a bag, leave it at the nearest pullout and we will pick it up. Free pizza will be provided at the info tent at 12:00pm. Send us the pictures you take during your day, or use #littletrivercleanup when posting on social media so we can shout you out! The info tent will be broken down around 2pm, but if volunteers are still working they can continue to leave their bags at pullouts for pickup.
Please fill out the form below to RSVP to this event so we know how much pizza to have. Email Skye with any questions. Thank you for pitching in to keep our river happy and healthy!
