When: February 1, 2025 @ 9:00 am
Help us polish up Franklin’s newest preserve!
During this special Saturday workday, we will focus on hanging trail signage at Onion Mountain. Gifted to Mainspring in 2021, Onion Mountain provides a different experience than our other properties. With a peak of 3,500 feet and a winding network of steeper forested trails, this preserve offers an opportunity to get your blood pumping! A variety of interesting creatures call this place home, including a significant patch of American Columbo, which is a somewhat uncommon and peculiar plant. Join us to get acquainted with this new recreation area alongside Mainspring staff while we prepare it to host our community!
This workday will occur from 9:00am-4:00pm, and Mainspring will provide lunch and snacks. Volunteers must be registered by 1/29 to order lunch. The meeting location is 119 North Laurel Trail in Franklin, which is not the standard parking area. See map below for exact location. Though we will be focusing on hanging signage, we will tackle other tasks as time and capacity allow. This may include invasive plant removal or building a fire pit.
Please bring a large water bottle (we will have a cooler for refills), work gloves (if you have them), and plenty of warm layers. Be sure to wear sturdy hiking boots and eat a good breakfast; we’ll be working up a sweat hiking up the Onion Mountain trails! This event is weather dependent. Please leave pets at home. Email Skye at [email protected] with any questions.
