This Endangered Species Day, come celebrate some of North Carolina’s tiny yet mighty threatened creatures- native pollinators!
Join Mainspring Conservation Trust and Highlands Nature Center for this easy stroll through the Highlands Biological Gardens to learn about some of our endangered pollinators, from bees and wasps to butterflies and moths! We will also discuss the specific flowering plants our pollinators depend on, and talk about how you can help these vulnerable critters. During the walk, we will use nets to practice capturing and identifying the pollinators living here on campus.
This program is weather dependent. In the event of inclement weather, join us for a short indoor discussion surrounding native pollinators and the flowers that support them.
We will meet at Highlands Nature Center (930 Horse Cove Road, Highlands NC 28741) just before 2pm on Sunday, May 21st. This walk should take about 1.5 hours.
The Highlands Nature Center is part of the Highlands Biological Station, a multi-campus center of Western Carolina University. Mainspring Conservation Trust is a land trust that stewards the Southern Blue Ridge through conservation, restoration, and education.
This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Please email Skye with any questions.
