Friends of Panthertown is celebrating their 20th anniversary by hosting a Bioblitz in the valley! Outreach Director Skye will be at the Salamander Steps hike to revel in the spotted, slimy, and slippery, but there’s over 3 weeks worth of adventures if amphibians aren’t your thing. Register for this event on Friends of Panthertown’s website, and direct any questions to Kara, Trails and Stewardship Director for Friends of Panthertown.
About the hike: Join Kyle Pursel, Lonesome Valley Naturalist and salamander expert, on this Panthertown outing to learn about the amphibians of Panthertown. The hike participants will be led into the damper areas of Panthertown to identify and learn about salamanders. Western North Carolina is the salamander capital of the world, with more species of salamanders living here than anywhere else. This hike will be a fun and informative excursion into Panthertown, and will also provide data to our iNaturalist species list that will inform management decisions, scientific studies, and the public for years to come.
